HGTV’s “Flip or Flop” follows divorced couple Tarek El Moussa and Christina Haack as they navigate house flipping in Southern California, including Costa Mesa, Newport Beach, and Hollywood, via The Cinemaholic. We just can’t get enough of the ex-couple because, let’s face it, their dating life is just as interesting as the former couple’s back and forth banter. We also can’t stop watching each couple separately on their own shows — Christina on her show “Christina on the Coast” and Tarek on “Flipping 101 w/ Tarek El Moussa.”
While we know that HGTV loves to feature shows that have married couples (think Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent of HGTV’s “Nate and Jeremiah by Design” and Erin and Ben Napier of “Home Town Takeover”), there’s just something extra special (or perhaps dramatic) about former couple Tarek and Christina that really keeps viewers interested — alleged including lash-outs on set, per People. So, with that, have you ever wondered what the best episode of “Flip or Flop” is?
This dilapidated home makeover stands out above the rest
HGTV/Discovery Inc
The first episode of Season 7, “A Deceiving Deal,” is the most inspiring on “Flip or Flop.” The Whittier, California 1,200 square foot, three-bedroom, two-bathroom home was one of those houses that seemed to have a lot going for it — but uncovered a slew of issues once inside, per HGTV. Unfortunately, the home was left a dilapidated mess by the tenants.
Tarek El Moussa initially wanted to put down $350,000 to $360,000; however, the seller wanted $370,000, per Realtor.com. With comparable sales in the area at $500,000, the ex-couple wasn’t initially worried since it is close to Los Angeles and Orange County, but the home’s problems made it challenging. The house had massive clutter in every room. The kitchen even had a raw turkey carcass sitting on the counter for what Christina Haack estimated to be for years.
All funny business aside, the duo had to deal with a cracked foundation that set them back $4,000, replacing the old roof and the wrong marble flooring installed in the laundry room and bathrooms. Thankfully, the exes didn’t rip that out and re-painted the walls instead. All in all, the former couple spent $95,000 on renovations and ended up selling the property for $530,000, according to Realtor.com. Not bad!
