Co-Founder, Meri Toskave
Tasman Bain is one of those people who seems impossibly accomplished and for someone so young. He’s a social entrepreneur, a campaigner to end violence against women and is becoming a leading voice in youth mental health issues.
In 2013 – inspired by a trip he’d taken to the nation in 2009 – he co-founded Meri Toskave, a youth-led NGO that strives to end gender-based violence in Papua New Guinea. Meri Toskave, which loosely translates to ‘information for women’ in Tok Pisin, provides awareness, education and information accessibility surrounding emergency services and support referral systems for those affected by domestic and sexual violence.
If that weren’t enough, Tasman is also currently the Chair of the Red Cross’ Queensland Youth Advisory Committee, has been a youth ambassador for both UNICEF and Plan Australia, has run marathons and hiked the Kokoda Track, and has volunteered in remote Aboriginal communities.
At Global Ideas Forum he’ll be leading a workshop on ending gender-based violence in PNG.
