Community Empowerment Coordinator, Lock The Gate Alliance
Lock the Gate Alliance is a national grassroots organisation with over 97, 000 supporters and 250 local groups. One of their biggest proponents for change is Annie Kia, who travels Australia with a singular mission; to help communities “find their voice to fight big mining”.
Annie’s extensive history in public health promotion forms a strong foundation for her current role as she advocates for those who feel powerless against unconventional gas mining and the destruction it brings to rural Australian communities.
Her expertise in building networks and grassroots social movements have proved invaluable for the Lock the Gate Alliance, for dozens of communities resisting gas fields and mines, and for the many Australians concerned about climate change.
At this year’s forum, Annie will be discussing re-setting our current climatic course by accessing the non-traditional power of social movements. Get ready to be inspired!
